God Loves an Obedient Heart

This week it seems like everywhere I turn, everything that I hear or read is directed toward obedience.

The Lord has had me camping out in Isaiah Chapter 6 this week. This passage is where God reveals himself to Isaiah in a vision and is calling him to be his messenger.

Four things have spoken to my heart this week as I have continued to  study and read this passage.

 1. He will reveal  His holiness to us. (verse 1)

2. He alone is worthy of our worship. (verse 2-3)

3. When we truly see Him for who He is, we will Have a desire to turn from our sin and be cleansed from our unrighteousness. (verse 5-7)

4. We are all called to be His messengers.(verse 8)

This is where obedience comes in to the picture?  When the Lord ask, ” Whom shall I send?”  How will we respond?

So many times when the Lord is directing us to do something we spend a lot of time  trying to rationalize or make a better plan. We go into the doubting and questioning mode.  We let fear of what other people will think  grip our heart and immobilize us.

The task that God was calling Isaiah to was not an easy task. God told Isaiah that the people(as a nation) would listen but not learn. Their hearts were hardened beyond repentance. But there would be some individuals who would listen.

Isaiah’s immediate response to God was, “Here am I. Send me!”

What a beautiful picture of obedience. That must have really made God’s heart smile.

I have spent a lot of time in His word this week. I have been praying for direction in my life in using the gifts He has given me. I want to take the passion that He has placed in my heart and bring glory to Him.

Obedience is so important in our walk with Him. Our time here on this earth is so short.  I want my life to make a difference in His Kingdom.

How about you?  What will your response be when He calls?  Will you surrender and follow Him?

Deuteronomy 28:1
[ Blessings for Obedience ] If you fully obey the LORD your God and carefully follow all his commands I give you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations on earth.

2 John 1:6
And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.

Heart Check-up – Pass or Fail

On Wednesday I went to my doctor for my annual check up. After discussing with him some concerns that I was having with my health,  he made the decision to hook me up with a twenty-four hour heart monitoring device. He instructed me to resume my normal activities in order to get an accurate reading.

Wearing this device was a little cumbersome  and aggravating. The device was supposed to come with a belt to hold the little box in place.  But the last person to use the device didn’t  return the belt, so I had to just tuck it in the waist of my pants. Every time that I went to the bathroom I had to find something to do with that little box.  And on top of that I couldn’t take a shower the next morning because of all of the wires.

Anyway, enough rambling ——back to the heart monitoring.

The next day when I went back to have the contraption removed, the nurse told me that someone would read the report and would notify me of the results.

As I was driving home I started thinking of the whole  heart  monitoring thing in comparison with the spiritual condition of my heart.

If  God was monitoring my spiritual  heart  what would He find?  What would my final report reveal?  I started thinking of the many different things that happen in my life within a twenty-four hour period.  Sometimes life is a like a rollercoaster.  One minute your emotions are running high–the next minute they are on a down hill-slide.  Each day brings a lot of opportunities to reveal who we really are. Or better yet whose we are?

Would He find me clothed in the fruit of the spirit?  Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Or would he find me with an unhealthy heart displaying pride, anger, and lacking forgiveness ?  A  heart  showing unloving actions toward others?  Would he find a  heart  filled with bitterness greed and selfishness?  A  heart crusted over with sin?

Would I  pass God’s  heart  check-up?  What would the final results reveal?  How about you?  What is going on in your heart today? Have you had a heart check up with God, lately?

Isn’t is wonderful to know that no matter what shape our heart is in that it can be healed and restored?  We have a God who is waiting and willing to let us start over.  God’s grace.

2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless,
of course, you fail the test?

1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

Romans 6:14
For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace..

Something is Missing

For the last several days I have just  felt sort of—- I don’t   know, I guess the word would be BLAH!!!

Maybe that is not a good way to explain it?  I have just felt sort of out of the loop. Disconnected, maybe. Like maybe, something is missing.

As I was rushing off  to work today, I stopped at my computer to check to see who my prayer sister was for the day. Then I quickly pulled up the devotion for the day from Proverbs 31. I read over it  quickly( getting my fix for the day) and closed the top down on my computer.

I  had no more than closed the top on my computer and it was as if I heard the words— Is that all of the time that I get from you today?

When I got in my car to head to work, the first words that I heard from the song playing on the radio were something like this—— All He wants is me on my knees worshipping Him.

Later in the morning, I begin to think about the words to the song that I had heard on the way to work. I begin asking myself a few questions. How much time have I spent with Him lately?  Of that time, how much  have I actually spent  worshipping Him?  Thanking Him?  Praising Him?  Listening to Him?  How much of that time have I actually spent on my knees???

These were some pretty tough questions I had to ask myself.  Unfortunately, I am sad to say, that the answers were no too pretty. So many times, in the last few weeks especially, I have not set with the Lord and just spent unlimited time in His presence. My time with Him lately, has been quick and hurried.  My time with Him has been me asking a lot of questions, asking Him for a lot of  answers to my prayers. Little time listening. Little time spent worshipping Him. And little time on my knees!!

I love the  mornings when I come to Him first thing, with a childlike trust. Yearning to see Him. Willing to listen to Him and allow Him to direct my day.

He is the something that I  have been  missing lately. I am so glad that the Holy Spirit tugs at my heart to remind me of this. I miss  my sweet Jesus.

Father, forgive me for setting you aside for other things. Forgive when I sometimes put you at the end of my day instead at the first. Forgive me for spending more time asking, than worshipping.  Thank you for reeling me back in. I love you, Lord. You alone are Holy. You alone are worthy of my worship. There is none like you. In your name, I pray. Amen.

Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.

Psalm 71:23
My lips will shout for joy when I sing praise to you— I, whom you have redeemed.

The Shepherd’s Heart

A few weeks ago I was shopping at a local Christian Book Store.  I purchased a print called ‘Jesus and the Lamb’.   When I went to check out I was telling the clerk that I had seen the print in the store last Christmas and regretted not purchasing it.  I was telling her that ever time I had returned to the store since that time I had looked for this particular picture.  She informed me that it was a very popular print.  Usually selling out within days after receiving it into the stores inventory.

As I exited the store, I told my husband that when I had the print framed that there was a verse in the Bible that I wanted to  include in the framing.  A verse saying something about – the Shepherd holding His sheep close to His heart.

I took the print home and laid it on top of  my entertainment center.  Sort of  forgetting about it.  This past week at the beach, in my quite time, I came across  the verse.

Isaiah 40:11
He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.

I came home from vacation and on Sunday night I woke up during the night thinking about these words, “The Shepherd’s Heart”.  The next day I came to my blog and started a new post and just typed in the title.  Since that time I have been praying about why to do a post  on this subject.  What would I say?

Now if you are like me, I am always asking God to confirm things to me. I have been asking a lot of questions.  God , is this blogging thing really from you?  Is it making a difference in anyones life?  What is the purpose, and why me ?  On Wednesday morning, as I was getting dressed, I was tossing this whole blogging thing around again and writing a post about the Shepherds heart.  So, I said to God, again,  if this (blogging) is truly from you please confirm it to me today.

I get in my car and  I start listening to a new cd that my son had given to me. You guessed it. A song (included at the end of this post) comes on with words about the Shepherd’s heart.

So today I looked up several verses in the Bible about the Shepherd.  God is often portrayed as a shepherd tending His flock. In Psalms 23  He is called a Shepherd;  in  John 10- 11,14, He is called the good Shepherd;  Hebrews 13:20 He is called the great Shepherd; and in I Peter 5:4  He is called the Chief  Shepherd.

These passages portray the Shepherd as someone who loves His sheep. Gently guiding them.  Willing to lay down His life for them. Everything that the Shepherd does for His sheep is done out of  love, not out of obligation. The Shepherd protects and cares for His sheep. The Shepherd brings peace.

Today, if your heart is breaking, due to circumstances that seem unbearable or impossible, turn to Jesus, the Great Shepherd. He wants to gather you in His arms and  hold you close to His heart.  He wants you to know that His love covers over all things.  His love is an everlasting love that  does not disappoint.  He is faithful, just and true. There is nothing to big or impossible for the Great Shepherd.

What a beautiful picture –   Jesus – picking you up and loving on you, and holding you close to His heart !!

Psalm 23:1
The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.

John 10:14
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—

John 10:15
just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.

1 Peter 5:4
And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that wil
l never fade away.

I love music!!!!  So enjoy!!!  This version is a little  lengthy- but the only one available that I could down load.

All Things Beautiful

As I said in an earlier post, I am at the beach this week!!

It has been a beautiful week.  We have had afternoon thunderstorms, but otherwise it has been a perfect week weather related.

I came up from the beach for a little break  from the heat.  As I am setting here at the computer, I have a perfect view out my window of  the ocean.  I  am just thinking how beautiful His creation is.  A beautiful display of his power and majesty. A magnificent portrait- – no end to the ocean, the beautiful sunrays glistening on the water, the water just fades in to the clouds.  Just a sample of the things that He has provided for our enjoyment!!!!

Sometimes I know that I take a lot of  His creation for granted. I go through my day not even thanking Him for all He has provided for me.  His creation speaks so loudly of  His great power. When I take time to soak in His beauty, I am amazed at  people’s unbelief. I look at the stars, the moon and the sun and set in awe of  the wonder of who He is.

The creator of all of  heaven and earth— and He is mindful of me. Wow!  His most precious creation— people.

Psalm 8

A psalm of David.

 1 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
       You have set your glory
       above the heavens.

2 From the lips of children and infants
       you have ordained praise [b]
       because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens,
       the work of your fingers,
       the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,

4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?

5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings [c]
and crowned him with glory and honor.

 6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:

 7 all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,

8 the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

 9 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Dear Lord, thank you for the gift of your beautiful creation. Thank you for the gift of your son. Thank you that you are mindful of me. I praise you, O LORD, how majestic is your name in all the earth!!!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

My Favorite Place to Be!!!

In one of my earlier post I mentioned that I would be vacationing  in St. Petersburg, Florida this week. Well, I am here !!  My husband and I love the beach. It is one of our favorite places to be.  To me, there is no more beautiful place !!

This morning we will pack our cooler and head to the beach.  We will  set up a canopy and spend most of the day between the beach and the pool.  We also try to get in a few walks each day.

My mom is with us this year.  It has been a little hard on her.  Actually this has been a difficult year for my entire family. There has been a lot of changes in our lives this past year.  My father and  father in law have both went home to be with the Lord.

Some of our best memories of them are of our families spending time together at the beach.

Papaw Spencer would set on the balcony and smoke his cigars and watch the kids enjoy the pool.  He loved to take his grandsons deep-sea fishing.  He loved the Sunny Side Grill in Panama City.  The best breakfast ever.  Or that is what my son Chris says!!!

Papaw D would do whatever.  He had such an easy-going personality.  He didn’t like to cross the big bridges. Really,he didn’t like the water at all. We actually got him to go deep-sea fishing one time.  MIRACLE!!!

Both of these men made a big impression on their family.  They both loved God and their families.  This is why they did a lot of things that they probably didn’t really like or want to do.  They both loved seeing their family enjoy life and being happy!!

They are not with us physically this year,  but they are in our  hearts !!

Thanking God today for our Papaws!!!  We were so blessed to have had them in our lives!!

Take time today  to tell your family that you love them.  Life is too short!!!
