Tell Me Your Hopes and Dreams

Do you you think God cares about your hopes and dreams?

On Friday I was cleaning in my bedroom. When I started to clean the mirror on my dresser I had to remove a little paper  heart  that  I had stuck in the corner of the mirror.  Someone had given me the paper heart  several years ago. I had stuck it in the corner of my mirror and had  really forgotten about it.  Today it caught my attention.  There was a message written on the  heart.  It read– Tell me your hopes and dreams. I care for you.  Love, God.

Over the past few days I have been really thinking about the words on this little  heart. If  I were to begin to tell Him my hopes and dreams what would I say to Him?

I think our hopes and dreams change over time.  When I begin to think of the things that I hoped for when I was younger they seem so materialistic. As I have gotten older and matured in my walk with the Lord my hopes and dreams have changed.  They have become more focused on being in alignment with His will for my life.

As  I have been preparing this blog, over the past few days, three words have kept coming to my heart and mind.  No greater loveNo greater love.  I kept hearing these words.  I was like okay God, but what do these words have to do with my hopes and dreams?  I finally listened to the voice in my head and looked up these words in the Bible. The scripture that I was directed to is found in John chapter 15.  This is where Jesus teaches about the vine and the branches.

If I desire for my hopes and dreams to be in alignment with His will for my life then I must be connected with Him. My hopes and dreams will be to become more like Him.  Bearing much fruit, seeking His will for my life, loving others the way that He does and following  His commandments.  I must abide in Him.

Do I think  He cares about my hopes and dreams?  Sure He does !!!  Listen to what  John 15: 7 and John 15:13 says:

John 15:7
If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.

John 15:13
Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.

Wow!!!  He calls me friend!!!  So think about it!!!  Wouldn’t  someone who laid down his life for me care about my  hopes and dreams?  NO GREATER LOVE !!!

So, slow down !!!  Spend some time with the Father today!!  Tell Him about your hopes and dreams!!!  He cares!!!

What are YOU Wearing Today??

I will clothe you, Sarah.”

One day, several months ago, I was standing in my closet, trying to decide what clothes that I was going to wear that day.  Out of no where I heard these words. It sort of caught me off  guard. But, I didn’t really think that much about it  at the time.

Over the next several months I have continued to see or hear God speaking confirmation of these words to me.  One particular passage of scripture that  God has continued to show me is found in Matthew 6.

25“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life[b]?

28“And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Now, if you are like me, when I start seeing the same scripture show up in my life over and over I start wondering what God is trying to say to me through this scripture ——or better yet I starting wondering what He is preparing me for.  And most of the time I start thinking the worst.  I have shared my thoughts on this verse  with a couple of  friends and I have come to realize that I don’t need to worry about things that I cannot control. I need to simply trust  in the Lord.  Whatever is going to happen God already knows about it and He is working all things to His good. We spend a lot of time worrying about things that never happen. Just a lot of wasted time making Satan happy.

After thinking more on the words  “I will clothe you”  I have come up with a little different ideal about what God could be speaking to me concerning these words. I have spent some time in His word looking at other scripture on what He says about how we should be clothed. Allow me to share a few verses of scripture with you and what I feel God is saying to me concerning  this subject.

Proverbs 31:25
She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.

Isaiah 61:10
I delight greatly in the LORD; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.

Romans 13:14
Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.

Colossians 3:12
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

I have to confess, there are many days when I look in the mirror  that I am more focused with my outer clothing  than I am with my spiritual clothing.  My hearts desire is  to be more like Him. My desire is to be clothed in His love and righteousness. I want to be a reflection of  Him.

So, the next time when I step into my closet and hear Him whisper, ” Sarah, I will clothe you” I will be looking at these words in a whole different way. My focus will more be on the  heart.  I will be asking myself  if my  heart  is properly clothed for the day. Am I dressed  in His love ?  Am I dressed in His righteousness ?  How about humility, compassion,  kindness, gentleness,  patience and faithfulness ?  And don’t let me leave off thankfulness. Do I have a heart  that shows forgiveness and mercy ?

How about you ?  WHAT ARE YOU WEARING TODAY?  What or who are you reflecting to others? Is the face in the mirror the one that you want others to see?

Jesus, Lover of My Heart (Soul)

Are their days in your life when you don’t  feel very loved?  Days when you doubt God’s love for you?  Days when you are not even sure that you love yourself?

A lot of our misgivings and doubts about God’s love for us come from Satan.  We let the negative thoughts that we hear in our minds over power us and control what we think about ourselves.  Satan is a liar and a great deceiver.  His plans are to keep us defeated. When negative words or thoughts begin to come into your mind – just whisper the sweet name of Jesus.  Jesus !  Jesus !  Jesus !

Over and over in God’s word He speaks of His unfailing and enduring love for us. His great love for us was so painfully displayed on the cross. Do we deserve such love?  NO!  Are there things  that we can do to cause Him to love us more?  To love us less?  NO!  His love is free!!  His love is unconditional!!  His love is forgiving !!   His  love is available to all who are willing to receive it.  All because of the Cross.

As I have been working on this blog  for  the last several days, I began to look up related scripture and songs speaking about His love for us.  His love for us is weaved so beautifully through out His word.  One particular verse that has come back to me several times this week is found in I Samuel 16:7.  But the LORD said to Samuel, “do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.  The LORD does not look at the things man looks at.  Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at  the  heart.”

Many times our feelings about ourselves come from what we assume that another  person thinks about us. We begin to think that we are not good enough. That we  aren’t  smart enough!  Not pretty enough!  Our home is not big enough!  The lies from Satan go on and on. So often we spend too much time trying to be who someone else tells us that we should be, instead of asking God who or what He wants us to be.

Isn’t  it so great to know that  God doesn’t  care about all of  these things?  Isn’t it good to know that he doesn’t judge us the way people do?  He only looks at the heart.

What is the condition of your heart today?  Are you doubting yourself?  Are you doubting God’s love for you?  Are you struggling to silence Satan’s lies?

I encourage you to take time out of your schedule today and sit with your Savior. Talk to Him. Read His word. Rest in His Presence.  You will find Him wating for you—-THE LOVER OF YOUR HEART !

Psalm 117:2
For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.

Psalm 138:8
The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me; your love, O LORD, endures forever— do not abandon the works of your hands.

Zephaniah 3:17
The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.”

A Thankful Heart Leads to the Healing of a Broken Heart

Today I was eating breakfast at the local Cracker Barrel. While my husband was paying for our meal, I was browsing around the store.  I noticed  a particular section of items that the store had designated  “thankfulness.”   These  item caught my attention. Correction, this particular word caught my attention.

You see, my heart was a little sad and breaking this morning. We had just came from dropping off my youngest son, Aaron at the airport.  He was returning to Florida, after being home for a visit. During breakfast I had just been discussing with my husband all of the things that made my heart sad about Aaron going back to Florida. If you are a mom you know what I am saying here.  No matter how old they are, you still have that motherly instinct to want to protect them and keep them close.

Anyway, back to thankfulness. This word kind of stung my thoughts for a minute.  As I continued thinking about Aaron and thankfulness the Lord spoke to me  “Sarah, what are you thankful for this morning, concerning Aaron?’   Wow!!!  Let me share a few thankful thoughts.

I am thankful that God has provided Aaron with employment (especially in this tough job market).

I am thankful that God has connected Aaron with a new church family in Florida.

I am thankful for how God is really working in Aaron’s life at this time.

I am thankful for the wonderful week that we were able to spend together.

I am thankful for the many answered prayers that  I have seen revealed in Aaron’s life in the last several months.

I am thankful for God’s protection on Aaron’s life while he has been away from his family.

Before I realized it I was smiling.  I know that you may be thinking that my son leaving and returning to Florida does not really constitute a broken heart (you would have to be a mother to understand).  But the point that I want to make here is more about turning our broken heart  toward thankfulness.

No matter what has caused our broken heart , how serious the situation is that is causing our pain, I think turning our heart  toward God in thankfulness is one of the first steps in easing our pain and begin the healing of our broken heart.

Is your heart breaking today?  In the midst of your difficult circumstances, what can you be thankful for?  Take a few minutes to thank God for the blessings and answered prayers in your life.

Father, thank you for the many blessing you give us in life. Thank you for hearing our prayers and answering them. Thank you that you are our strength and our shield in times of trouble. Thank you for you unfailing love. Amen

Psalm 28:7
The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.

1 Thessalonians 5:18
give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

Where Do We Go From Here ???

Not really sure why or what this blog is about.  I just sat down at the computer and clicked on new post.  “Where do we go from here?”  are the words that I heard God speaking to me.  You see, I am trusting God each day to tell me what to say !   If you have read about why I started blogging you will understand that this is all about Him. I am trying to be obedient to Him and trusting Him to do with this only what He can do.

Many times in our life we are searching for His will and His way and we become really frustrated. I have found that the frustration comes when we try to get ahead of Him. He is on a completely different time-table than we are. We want things to happen overnight. When He is speaking to our  hearts  about something,  He is already working out the details far in advance of the stirring in our hearts.

Most of the time, I have found that if  He is calling us to do something , the time delay is due to reconstruction that has to come in our lives in order to be prepared for the challenges that will be put before us in the journey that He has us on.  A  cleansing, shaping, and testing of our lives ???  Will we really follow ?

When we commit to giving Him full control of our lives, this is a very BIG step.  I have come to understand that when we make this commitment to Him there is a lot of changes that we will have to make in our lives. When you turn over one thing to Him and you feel like you have finally conquered the battle, He says, ” what about this ___________?  I need to have control of this, too.”

So, I guess the answer to the question before me today, is to follow Him, with a child like trust.  Being obedient one day at a time. Putting one foot in front of the other. No looking back. No looking ahead.

Do you here the Father calling you ?  How will you respond to Him?  His plans for our lives are so much more beautiful than we could ever imagine,  if we will just relinquish  ALL  to him.

Father,  I love you!  You alone are Holy. There is none like You.  Help me to  walk with you each day, in obedience, one step at a time, with a  child like trust. When things are going on that I don’t  fully understand,  help me to run to you, not away from you.  Help me to recognize that you are working  all things to the good for my life.  Your ways are much better than mine. Help me to be faithful in the molding and shaping process. I want to walk in your ways, all of the days of my life.  In the name of  Jesus, I pray.  Amen.

  Romans 8:28
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Isaiah 64:8
Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.

What Makes My Heart Smile ?

What makes my heart smile ? I  have been thinking that the previous post have been somewhat serious.  So, today I thought I would shift directions when thinking about the heart.  How about you?  What makes your heart smile ?

My youngest son, Aaron, is home from Florida this week for a visit. He has been away for school and a job for the last four years. My heart  was sooo happy on Saturday as I was waiting for his arrival to Knoxville.  I usually talk to him on the  phone everyday.  But it is sooo good to actually see him. We have been catching up this week.  It is so exciting to see our children grow up and experience life.

This past week-end we spent some time with our family celebrating the Fourth of July Holiday.  On Tuesday and Wednesday, Aaron is visiting his brother in Alabama.  On Thursday we are going to maybe take in Toy Story Three.  Then, on Saturday we are planning on going to the Pancake Panty in Gatlinburg to have breakfast with friends and family.  This is one of Aaron’s favorite places.  He will be leaving on Sunday to return to Florida.  Then my heart will be sad !!   But, hopefully I will see him again in three weeks. Our family will be going on vacation to spend some time in Florida with him.  Heart  smile !!!

Spending time with my sons is just one of the things that makes my heart smile.

How about you??  What makes your heart smile ?  Please leave a comment or story for others to enjoy.

Lord,  Thank you for my sons. I know that they are a  gift from you. Thank you for all of the  heart  smiles that you have allowed me  to experience through them.  Thank you for giving us things in our lives that makes us smile, even when life is difficult.  Thank you, most of all Lord,  for your SON, who died on the cross for me.  Amen.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

 Psalm 127:3
Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him.

Strength In His Hands

Over the past few years ,  due to  some sufferings that God has allowed me and my family to go through, I have been drawn to His word.  I have discovered that there are so many wonderful nuggets that  I can take away to strengthen me and help me through each day.  I have been amazed at how many verses in the Bible refer to God using His hands to help us and hold us in our times of suffering and pain.

A few weeks back of this, I actually had a conversation with a dear friend about God’s hands.  I  jokingly told her that God must be right-handed.  Her comment came back to me very swiftly.   “Why do you think this?”  I explained to her that over and over in scripture it speaks of God using His right hand to lift us up, strengthen us and protect us.  Chuckling, she replied, ” but I am left-handed, so does that mean that He doesn’t  love me as much as the right-handed people?”  I assured her that was not the case.   HE  LOVES US ALL THE SAME!  It doesn’t matter where we have been, or what we have done, we have the blessed assurance that His hands are holding us.

The reason that I came to this conclusion was that as a person when we are grasping for something we are going to use the hand with the  most strength. It  doesn’t  really  matter if  God is left or right-handed. What really matters is that He is holding on to us ever so tightly in the midst of our sufferings or what ever is causing us to be broken-hearted.

One of my favorite verses that I have  been able to cling to in times of suffering is found in Isaiah 41:10. When I am afraid, or don’t  fully understand what is going on in my life, I go back to this verse and recall it over in my heart and mind. I find comfort and rest in His hands.  The picture that comes to my mind when I read this verse is of my beautiful Savior holding me close to His  heart,  like a shepherd would do with his sheep.

Isaiah 41:10
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
